If a tenant receives an income from Centrelink, they may be able to use Centrelink’s Centrepay service to pay their rent. This is a free voluntary direct bill-paying service for tenants.
From a tenant’s perspective, it takes away the hassle of having to arrange rental payments each fortnight. Deductions come from the tenant’s Centrelink payments and can be used to pay many types of bills, such as child care, electricity bills or in this case – rent.
The key benefit for landlords here is that it’s a great way to guarantee that rent is always paid on time!
To set up this service tenants must complete a ‘Centrepay Deduction Form’ and return it to Centrelink.
Home Specialist Property Management are a registered business with Centrepay. We simply give a tenant our registered Centrepay number – it’s that simple.
This type of payment arrangement is most suitable for rental properties that are $450 per week and under. A $450 p/w price-bracket can provide suitable family homes here on the Central Coast and it is worth keeping in mind that there are many young families that may have dropped to one income while raising young children and are receiving Centrelink payments.
From a landlord’s perspective – Centrepay tenants can provide guaranteed income with the peace-of-mind knowing that it automatically is deducted from tenant’s Centrelink payments before they receive them.
It is worth considering tenants that are receiving Centrelink payments and are eligible for Centrepay. It may increase a landlord’s suitable tenant selection immensely. A greater selection of good quality tenants is a great way to reduce the time it takes to fill a vacant rental property.
